This week’s documentary screening at the Adham Center is Born into Brothels (2004). Documentary photographer Zana Briski journeys into Calcutta’s red light district of Sonagachi to photograph women working in the sex trade. She offers to teach the prostitutes’ children the basics of her craft so they could document their own lives on the streets. Their astonishing photographs were exhibited around the world and are seen in this Academy Award-winning film.
