Literature @ Downtown

In a series of public readings, three actors will read from three books selected by Egyptian novelist Ahmed Al Aidi. The featured texts were selected for their ability to bridge the gap between a written text and its performative potential, for their relevance and pertinence to the current moment in literature, and for the personal impact they have had on the author.

On three separate evenings, in an intimate setting, audiences will listen to excerpts from an upcoming short story collection by Egyptian novelist Ahmed Naji, and excerpts from a novel by Mohamed Al Fakharany, a chapter of the American author Chuck Palahniuk’s Haunted, and excerpts from Al Aidi’s own cynically humorous novel, Being Abbas El Abd.
