Satche (Saul Williams), wakes up one morning and his mother’s house and learns that he will die at the end of the day. For the span of the day, Satche will gradually accept his impending sentence. Laced with spirituality and soulfulness, ‘Today’ strikes a remarkably eloquent balance between melancholy and serenity to contemplate atonement. Superbly played with understated intensity by American actor-musician Saul Williams (‘Slam’), structured with a fluidity that underlines the porousness of time, we journey with Satche in Dakar’s neighborhoods and suburbs as he parses through emotions to find clarity. Solemn, poetic yet affectless and unassuming Gomis’s ‘Today’ is a captivating contemporary African folk tale on death and the fear of death that has healing power.

Nominated for the Golden Berlin Bear at Berlin International Film Festival (2012) and was awarded the Audience Award at the International Film Festival of La Roche-sur-Yon in 2012.
