Horse Money
Pedro Costa
Portugal, 2014
Portuguese, with English subtitles - 104 min
A visionary masterwork from the director Pedro Costa's Horse Money is a mesmerizing odyssey into the real, imagined and nightmarish memories of the elderly Ventura, a Cape Verdean immigrant living in Lisbon. The film moves seamlessly from the mind-numbingly slow present with hospital stays and bureaucratic questioning, and the past, into the mid 1970s, during Portugal's Carnation Revolution. Horse Money is an attempt to memorialize lives in danger of being forgotten, in an ever-changing world
