This course clarifies the functions of common DSLR cameras and basic photographic techniques. It also provides an introduction to digital viewing and editing on the computer. Students will learn about depth of field, aperture, exposure, light meter, quality settings, shutter speeds, and basic composition. Students can bring their own DSLR camera, or use one from CIC.

About the instructor:
Mohamed Ali Eddin is a freelance photojournalist who started his career as an investigative reporter in 2006. He worked for AlMasry AlYoum, ElBadeel, ElShorouk and Yahoo! Maktoob, as a freelance photojournalist. Some years ago he decided to focus more on the format of the photo essay documenting the change in Egyptian society. He attended visual storytelling workshops with Noor Images, Al-liquindoi workshops and World Press Photo. Ali Eddin won the WPPH grant for Reporting Change in 2013 and the Manuel Riveras Ortiz Foundation grant for documentary photography in 2014.
