What is Madd?
Madd is an independent non institutional entity of researchers and practitioners of architecture and urbanism whom their work in the previous years concentrated on the fields of public work through projects, research and volunteer work through research institutions and universities.
Madd works under a moral umbrella, reduced to four key concepts: community empowerment, community participation, publication of all information related to Madd projects to serve as an open source platform and communicates and works only with grassroots initiatives.
Madd communicates with the community through grassroots initiatives to connect the needs of implementing the projects with ideas, proposals and support of experts and craftsmen working under similar moral umbrellas to collect all that in projects serving the community.
Madd projects are not only limited to urban projects but is also working on documenting the projects through research to facilitate to other groups to benefit from the strength and weaknesses of the design and research process. After turning the project into a research documenting the process it is used to work on reform and change in policies. This process might also work vies versa as in starting with research then changing the policies and finally implement a on the ground experience.
Madd worked on two main community participation urban projects, which are as follows:
Redesigning the main spin of Kom el Ahmar in Kom el Ahmar village. The project aimed to redesign the main spin of the village by adding activities of which the residents would benefit as well as other cultural and community services.
The other project was redesigning Silvana square and the surrounding streets in Mit Oqba to serve as an entrance to the neighborhood as well as giving consulting on how to repair 9 other internal lanes in the neighborhood.
Madd currently works on an alternative participatory project in Maspero which aims to add the aspect of the community in the neighborhood Maspero triangle as a key aspect in the development process, where the state has come up with infinite proposals to develop the neighborhood yet none involved the community.
Today the residents are facing the risk of removal of Maspero triangle to build large-scale projects for Kuwaiti companies and Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Madd tries to provide alternatives to the project -oriented towards the state, the investors and the people of the neighborhood in order for everyone to benefit from.

The project is based on two phases, the first phase of participatory research and the participatory design phase. And since that was the completion of the research phase , introduced on the search experts , and practitioners of architecture , and urbanization , and the meeting , and the economy , and the environment , will be a key point to take advantage of critic , and discuss ways of intervention of the participation project.

Madd would like to invite everyone to present the outputs of the participatory research project Maspero participatory parallel, on Wednesday, February 5, in the Built Envoirment Collective Megawra” from 7:00 to 9:30.

Running time 45 minutes, then open discussion
