Megawra re-opens on Oct. 20.

 

We are beginning our 2013/2014 season on 20th October with an open week (20th – 24th Oct.)

You can now come join us on the 20th of October to see our new books with the new library system, discover the new program that would be full of lectures, workshops, and many other events, and also volunteer to be part of MEGAWRA’s team, where you would be more involved in MEGAWRA’s community.

We are preparing some fun art installations during the opening on the 20th where you can paint using sprays and different colors. Also, anticipate the “Stamps” activity where you could design your own stamp, or ones that also reflect MEGAWRA. We will be also meeting with the volunteers who wish to be part of our team during the day, so feel free to register during the day or beforehand.

MEGAWRA is an architectural hub for young students and architects that is also open to the public. It is a platform for holistic debate on the field of architecture and urbanism with a focus on it as art, theory, praxis and cultural heritage and its role in promoting sustainability and social responsibility in the built environment.

MEGAWRA is an architectural hub operated by the Egyptian NGO, Built Environment Collective (reg. no. 8391)

* for students and young graduates of architecture– as a resource, space for meeting, learning, networking, discussing, thinking and doing.
* for young groups initiatives concerned with the development of architecture and the related fields for cross fertilization and interaction.
* for exchange within and across the fields of architecture, construction, urban studies and art on both the interprovincial and international level.
* for raising the awareness of society of the critical role these fields play in their lives and opening channels for mutual communication and cooperation.

MEGAWRA, as a space, accommodates the following:
* Megawra - Established professionals mentor students and advise them in their fields of specialization.
* Maktaba – A specialized architectural library with hands on orientation sessions and library help guides.
* Ma3rad – A space for exhibitions and shows with direct or indirect relevance to architecture.
* Muhadra – Lectures, workshops, seminars and training courses that respond to student needs.
* Multaqa – A workspace for students with free internet access, printing and scanning services.
* Magmu3a- Meeting facilities for groups and initiatives concerned with issues of the built environment.
* Marsad - Collaborative research on the built environment by a network of professionals and academics.
* Maqha and Mahal –A cafeteria, in addition to a shop selling essentials and supplies.

MEGAWRA is a non-profit project that will grow organically in directions that respond to current needs and that are guided by the users of its space. Its revenue will be from nominal fees provided for membership and services. Additional programs, events and projects will be funded through grants and sponsorship.
