This program is designed to bridge the gap between theory and praxis in two ways; it introduces graduating students to the design process as it is practiced professionally, it also teaches them how to make the leap from concept and theory to design – a skill vital to the design process. Participants will meet 5 times over 6 weeks. They will work as a group to design a building in a real plot. The process of conceptualisation, presentation of avant projet to client, fine tuning of design, preparation of technical and shop drawings will be simulated. Emphasis will be placed on team work, understanding the relationship between theory and practice and on gaining personal insight into one’s design process. 

Participants will be seniors (graduating students) or graduates. 
No of participants: 15 – 25.

20 October Announce program.

31 October Registration deadline. 
Required: bio (200 words), personal statement (400 words), portfolio.

6 November Public lecture
Raef Fahmi’s design process and how he links between theory and practice. Followed by a question answer session with potential participants in the mentorship program. The purpose is both to acquaint them better with the program objectives and structure and also to allow Fahmi to choose the applicants most suited to the program.

10 November Announce successful applicants
Participants will be required to hold annual Megawra membership.

16 Nov – 28 Dec Saturday work sessions.
Session 1: Conceptualisation + Design draft 1 (Avant project)
Session 2: Client meeting and project rethink.
Session 3: Design draft 2 (for technical review) + technical consultation
Session 4: Shop drawings.
Session 5: Final product (including presentation)
