A Rumour of Love (Isha’at Hobb)
Fatin Abd al-Wahhab – Egypt – 1961

In this lighthearted screwball comedy Hussein (played by Omar Sharif) is a shy boy with little experience when it comes to the other sex. He is in love with his cousin Samiha (played by Soad  Hosny) who is more interested in the playful Lucy, a more experienced yet effeminate boy. Samiha's dandy father – the great Youssef Wahby – is shocked by Lucy's appearance and not all too happy to see his daughter hang out with him. He thus comes up with a scheme to make Hussein more attractive to Samiha (and all other women in Port Said), a scheme that involves the great actress Hind Rostom.

Fatin Abd al-Wahhab is known for his comedies, many of which he made with the famous comedian Ismail Yassin. But his comedies sometimes also convene social messages, like his film ‘My Wife, the General Manager’ from 1966. Rumour of Love boasts many amazing actors and actresses and is sure to entertain you before we take our annual Christmas break.
