Stateless
Senne Dehandschutter - Belgium - 2012

Majd is stateless since he was born. During the Nakba in 1948 his family was expelled from Haifa, now part of Israel. Returning is forbidden. Obtaining a visa or a residency is impossible. But after moving from one country to another numerous times and endless years of paperwork, Majd achieves the impossible. With the help of his Belgian residency and the support of an NGO he obtains a tourist visa for Israel. As a tourist Majd can visit his country for the first time.

Together with his friends Xander en Pieter Stockmans, Majd travels for the first time to his home country Palestine. Belgian director Senne Dehandschutter made a documentary about this unforgettable journey. We follow Majd who tries to understand the political and religious conflicts in his country from both sides while he’s looking for his roots. A most interesting quest!
